MERRYLEGS RIDING ACADEMY

                                    at Golden Heart Farm

Basics of Riding--from age 4 to adult. Balance of the rider and  control of the horse are essential basics. Also, the basics of  grooming, tacking, leading, mounting, dismounting, and moving the horse at a different gaits and in different directions are the first steps.

We believe the best way for children to learn to groom, tack up, and mount a horse is to have one that is the perfect size--their own size. Our goal is to give a child confidence and to allow them to feel in control.

PRICE LIST

English riding--using english tack, students will be learning to walk, post at the trot, canter, and learn the basics of jumping. Riders can also learn the basics of dressage.

Western Pleasure--using western tack, students will learn to walk, sit the trot, jog, and lope. We will offer basic pole bending and barrel racing, but not too fast for little ones. Safety is always the primary concern.

Horse Camp--camp will begin again in the summer.  However, weekend sessions can be arranged, if a group of 6 or more can be organized.  Campers learn the basics of riding English and Western. They also learn about horse care,  breeds of horses, parts of the horse, types of tack, and general horsemanship. Campers do crafts, play games, and, if the weather allows,  go swimming.

Saddle Club--this is a group lesson for kids 8 to 12.  Kids have a lesson with other horse-loving kids, just like the Saddle Club on TV.

Teen Saddle Club--teens have their own "Saddle Club" every Sunday.  Teens have a group lesson with other horse-loving friends.  Some bring their own horses, others use our haflinger horses.

Library--we offer a Lending Library of books about horses and ponies. Included are the "Pony Pals"  chapter books; pre-schooler stories such as "Patchy the Fuzzy Wuzzy Pony"; and books on horse and pony breeds.

Playdays--we will have playdays for all disciplines periodically.  These should be fun for anyone who wants to participate.  There will be games on horseback, and "shows" in which a child wins if they can complete a particular task, not if they "beat out" everyone else. There are plenty of   those shows everywhere else.
